Interestingly enough, Australia's Prime Minister met with the New Indonesian Prime Minister, Joko Widodo, the day before. Is it a coincidence that the Balibo 5 investigation was dropped the next day? Could a deal have been done to drop the investigation in return for some kick-backs from Indonesia? It makes one wonder.

The Balibo 5 were 5 Australian journalists killed in East Timor in 1975. It is thought that they were killed by the Indonesian military. A sixth Australian journalist Roger East, was also killed in East Timor, a few months later. He is also thought to have been killed by the Indonesian military. The murders of the Balibo 5 and Roger East are significant events of Australian 'deep politics' and there are questions about how much the Australian Government knew and whether they collaborated with the Indonesian Government in this matter.

The interviewer promised to send Malcolm some information on WTC 7, so will be interesting to see what impact that has on his view of 9/11. It is encouraging to see someone of Malcolm Fraser's stature airing some very thoughtful comments on some key events of "deep politics".

The Obama Regime Admits it's Support of Terrorism and Role in Prolonging the Syrian Conflict

In his September 10 speech at the White House Obama made the following revealing remark on Syria:

"Across the border, in Syria, we have ramped up our military assistance to the Syrian opposition. Tonight, I again call on Congress to give us additional authorities and resources to train and equip these fighters. In the fight against ISIL, we cannot rely on an Assad regime that terrorizes its people; a regime that will never regain the legitimacy it has lost. Instead, we must strengthen the opposition as the best counterweight to extremists like ISIL, while pursuing the political solution necessary to solve Syria's crisis once and for all".

In these words, Obama admits that they have been providing military assistance to the Syrian opposition terrorists and that they will increase that assistance. By arming the rebels fighting against Assad, they prolong the civil war, resulting in more deaths. If it were not for the foreign support of the rebels, the rebels would have been defeated long ago and the war would have been over.

Secondly, the opposition forces that America support, collaborate with ISIS. Therefore they are not a counterweight to ISIS. There is no moderate opposition in Syria. America is planning on fighting ISIS by supporting the allies of ISIS. Not logical, if America is truly trying to defeat ISIS. Of course the current conflict isn't really about ISIS. ISIS is an American/Israeli intelligence asset that provides a pretext for America to start flying airstrikes into Syria, in plan B in their attempt for regime change, after their phony chemical weapons attack failed to garner the necessary support for their war of terror against Assad.

Furthermore, in the above quote Obama asserts that the Assad regime has lost its legitimacy and terrorizes its people. In reality, it is Assad's regime who is the main force fighting these nutcases from groups like ISIS and Al Nusra Front, and it is the US Government that has lost it's legitimacy by terrorising the rest of the world with its psychopathic serial wars of aggression.

Ukraine Crisis - What You're Not Being Told

The coup that toppled the government in Kiev had a significant Neo Nazi faction within it that is supported by the West. The hypocrisy of the West is plain for all to see. Back in 1997, former National Security Advisor to President Carter and Western political elitist Zbigniew Brzezinski discussed the Ukraine in his book 'The Grand Chessboard'. His view was that without Ukraine, Russia would cease to be a Eurasian empire. Brzezinski has a certain amount of influence in Washington today including on Obama himself. This book provides some insight into why the West and USA in particular are fighting a proxy war in Ukraine, and engaging in the most insane political brinksmanship.

Interesting interview with serial warmonger John McCain. He spruiks for more war in Iraq and Syria against the ISIS terrorists that America has created and used against the Shiite/Alawite world. ISIS is a trojan horse that the Americans will probably use to start flying air strikes into Syria. A recent article on the ABC website titled "Islamic State: Barack Obama Preparing to Authorise Air Strikes in Syria to Attack Militants 'Wherever They Exist'" states that "US officials said Mr Obama was opening the door to air strikes against the group in Syria". Furthermore, they have been attacking and weakening Israel's neighbours, so Israel is probably supporting them as well. McCain also supports war in Ukraine, despite the fact that the pro-Kiev forces have a significant number of Nazis among their number. Yet another example of the American empire supporting some rather unsavoury characters.

One particularly interesting part of the interview, was where he says that everyone in the National Security team recommended that they arm ISIS, but that Obama turned down that plan. Assuming that McCain hasn't made a verbal gaffe here, then that would prove that the Americans have known about ISIS for quite a while and that there was significant support for arming ISIS in the current administration and despite Obamas alleged opposition to the plan, the intelligence community probably went ahead and did it covertly anyway. The idea of arming moderate rebels in Syria is a complete joke, given that the moderates collaborate with the more radical groups like Al Nusra Front and ISIS in their fight against Assad. Supporting any of the rebel groups is to support the radical jihadists. It is important that Assad stays in power. If he falls then the radical jihadists will take over.

Looks like the US and Ukraine Governments have got some Blackwater style US mercenaries operating in Ukraine. I suppose that enables the US to continue its proxy war against Russia, while claiming to not have any of their military involved in the fighting. Given what these people did in Iraq, that is bad news for the people of Ukraine.

The Covert Origins of ISIS

The US/NATO/Israeli axis has been using Islamic terrorists to fight a proxy war against the Syrian Government for a number of years now. They are a Western intelligence asset and a tool of regime change. Well known journalist, Seymour Hersh, documented in his 2007 article "The Redirection", the foreign policy shift of the American Government to get behind the radical Sunni Islamists against the Iran/Syria/Hezbollah axis.

The violence of ISIS also fits in with the Israeli "Yinon Plan" document which called for the balkanisation of the Middle East, weakening Israel's neighbours leaving Israel as the dominant power. The 3 Coming False Flag Attacks

Interesting mini documentary on false flag terrorism, which is where a government stages a terror attack and blames it on it's perceived enemy in order to create a pretext for starting a war with that enemy. It is also used as a pretext for a domestic crackdown on political dissent. A couple of interesting clips within this documentary include well known journalist Seymour Hersh recounting a conversation former US Vice President Dick Cheney had with his staff about constructing fake Iranian PT boats to then use them to shoot at American ships to create a pretext for starting a war with Iran. Another interesting clip is of an Israel lobbyist talking in a seminar about using a staged provocation to start a war with Iran. It never ceases to amaze me, how political leaders and lobbyists can see war as something desirable, to the point that they actively lobby for it and are willing to even kill their own citizens in order to create a false pretext to start a war. Such people are psychotic extremists of the worst, most dangerous kind.

Dr. Michael Brown and Dr. Don Preston Debate Israel and Eschatology

Fascinating debate on the issue of Israel and eschatology (last things) with a focus on whether there will be a future national conversion of Israel. The combatants were Dr Don Preston representing the Preterist view (fulfilment in our past, but was in the near future for the original first century audience) and Dr Michael Brown representing the Premillenial Futurist view (fulfilment in our future). Both speakers were cordial and did a good job representing their views and crammed in a lot of material into the time given them. Noted Christian apologist, Dr James White, also did a good, professional job as moderator. It would be useful to listen to this debate again, as there was a lot of material covered. If the organisers know of a good scribe, maybe they could produce a written transcript of the debate, which would be useful.

If we allow Scripture to define its own terms, then I think the Preterist view is the superior view. We shouldn't assume a rigidly literal interpretation for every Biblical passage (even the most wooden literalists interpret some passages figuratively), but rather we should understand the language conventions of the Biblical authors and understand how they defined their terms. Two of the key points of difference between the two positions are whether we should understand the apocalyptic passages figuratively or literally, and whether we should understand the time statements figuratively or literally. I think Preterism is the stronger position on both counts. Preterism interprets the apocalyptic passages figuratively and the time statements literally. Looking at Old Testament apocalyptic, we see that events of local judgement were presented in terms of universal destruction. For example in Isaiah 34 mention is made of the heavens being dissolved and the sky being rolled up like a scroll, yet it is a passage of judgement against Edom (vv 5, 6, 9, and 11). The universe wasn't literally dissolved, yet it was an event of real judgement on Edom, which effectively was the end of the world for them. Another example can be found in Micah 1, where God is described as coming down and melting mountains and splitting valleys, as he was going to bring judgement on Samaria and Jerusalem. Mountains didn't literally split, however there was a real event of judgement on Samaria and Judah at the hands of the Assyrians in 722-721 BC.

Regarding the time statements, Preterists interpret them literally. In the New Testament phrases such as 'this generation" are used consistently to refer to the generation alive in the time of Jesus. About the only time futurists dispute this is in the Olivet Discourse (Matthew 24, Mark 13, Luke 21). They do this to preserve their futurist paradigm and don't like the idea of a first century fulfilment of the Olivet Discourse. Once the Olivet Discourse falls to a first century fulfilment it is not too hard to connect the dots and realise that the other New Testament apocalyptic passages also had their fulfilment in that timeframe. Matthew 24 (and parallel passages in Mark 13 and Luke 21) start out with a question about the timing of the destruction of the Herodian temple which happened in AD70. Logically then the subsequent verses must have something to do with that event. Jesus repeatedly described what his first century audience would see, hear and experience. When they saw the abomination of desolation they were to flee Judea and head for the hills (Matthew 24:15-16). These verses prove that the judgement in the Olivet Discourse is local, focussed on Judea, and not global. If this passage was talking about a global, world ending judgement, what good would it do to flee Judea and run to the hills? Furthermore when Jesus told his first century audience "I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened" (Matthew 24:34), somehow I don't think his original first century audience was sitting there thinking "Of course! He must be talking about a distant future group of people 2000+ years in our future". I think they would have realised he was talking about what they would need to do. In terms of audience relevance, the Preterist view is much stronger than the Futurist view.

One wonders how many news events are carefully staged events that use these crisis actors in order to shape public opinion.

Response to William Lane Craig on "Was Jesus a Failed Eschatological Prophet?"

Dr William Lane Craig is a prominent Christian philosopher, debater and author who has done a lot of good work in the area of philosophy and specialises in debating atheists and secularists. He is a good communicator and debater, remains calm under pressure and is gentlemanly and gracious in his conduct. Recently, on his Reasonable Faith website he provided a response to a question sent to him by someone named Jessie, on "Was Jesus a Failed Eschatological Prophet?". I think his response was somewhat lacking and reveals a potential weakness in his theology that could be exploited by the sceptics. When trying to deal with the problem of Jesus teaching He would return in the first century, but apparently not fulfilling that prediction, both Dr Craig's answer and that of many modern evangelicals is to fudge on the time statements. Both Jessie and his sceptical antagonists know that Jesus clearly taught a first century return, and clever sceptics will have a field day with modern evangelical attempts to side step this issue by trying to claim that the time statements are not clear. 

With the above observations in mind, I thought I would throw in my two cents worth on this issue. Being a blog post, I will try to keep it short and concise. Jessie in his question is correct when he states that Jesus was clearly talking about his contemporary generation in Matt 24:34. When evangelicals say it is unclear, I think they do so to preserve their futurist paradigm, not because of sound exegesis. There is nothing ambiguous about the timing of the return of the Jesus or of the context of the passage. The passage starts off with a question about the destruction of the Herodian temple, which was fulfilled in AD70. The Olivet Discourse is Christ's response to that question and he bookends the discourse by saying to his first century audience "I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened". I somehow don't think his original audience would have been thinking "Of course, he must be talking about some distant future generation 2000 years removed from us", especially when he had told them  that they would hear of wars and rumours of wars (Matt 24:6), that they would see the abomination of desolation (Matt 24:15), and would need to flee to the mountains (Matt 24:16). Furthermore, if this was a world ending event what good would fleeing to the hills do? In contrast, this admonition would make perfect sense in relation to the destruction of Jerusalem, where running to the hills would enable the Christians to escape the coming destruction of the city. The early Church Father and historian Eusebius in his "History of the Church", tells us that the Christians fled Jerusalem (Book 3 paragraph 5). Also in the same passage he applies the prophecy of the abomination of desolation to the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple in AD70. The parallel verse of Matt 24:15, found in Luke 21:20 further confirms the first century application of this prophecy when he describes the abomination of desolation as "When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near". Luke writing for a more gentile audience puts the abomination of desolation in layman's terms, so to speak. This would have helped his audience more clearly understand what was being talked about. Regarding the coming of the Son of Man on the clouds (Matt 24:30), the application of this to the destruction of Jerusalem fits the "this generation" , first century timeframe; and is also consist with the nature of fulfilment for this type of language in the Old Testament that Jesus's audience would have been well familiar with. In the Old Testament there were a number of passages using apocalytic language describing God coming on the clouds, or mountains splitting, or the sun, moon and stars being blacked out; that are applied to an event of judgement where God uses an invading army to bring judgement on a wicked city or nation. Examples include Isaiah 13 especially vv: 6-13 (destruction of Babylon, cf vv:1 and 17-19), Isaiah 19:1ff (destruction of Egypt), and Micah 1:3-16 (destruction of Samaria and Jerusalem). Josephus also relates that at the time of Jerusalem's destruction an incredible phenomenon appeared in the sky: "for before sun setting, chariots and troops of soldiers in their armor were seen running about among the clouds, and surrounding of cities" (Flavius Josephus, "The Wars of the Jews", 6:5:3). So when Luke talks about signs in the sun, moon and stars (Luke 21:25), I think this event could be argued to be the literal fulfilment of that. 

I am not sure how Dr Craig can say that Matt 10:23 was probably a saying about the end of the world. It is what it says, a statement to Jesus' first century disciples about how he would return before they had finished going through the cities of Israel. Thankfully He kept his word and returned in AD 70. There is no confusion in either Jesus or Matthew's mind about first century fulfilment and "end times" because the end times were in the first century. The writer to the Hebrews, writing in the first century said "in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son..." (Heb 1:2). Evidently, the writer to the Hebrews believed that the last days were already a present reality in the first century. John is even more specific. In 1 John 2:18 he says that "it is the last hour". Not only was it the last days in the first century, it was the last hour. Furthermore, in 2 Tim 3, when Paul wrote to Timothy to warn him about last days apostates, he warned Timothy to have nothing to do with them. If Timothy was warned to have nothing to do with them, it is probable they were already on the scene when Timothy was alive in the first century. Peter also wrote about these apostates (2 Peter 2) and Jude, in a passage very similar to Peter's, said that these false teachers had already come on the scene (Jude 4). 

Dr Craig's attempt to quote passages such as Matt 24:45-51 to argue for a large interval of time doesn't work. The delay mentioned in this passage is delay within the lifetime of the wicked servant, one human lifetime or generation, not thousands of years. The master returns within the lifetime of the servant who saw him leave, not when his distant relatives are alive many centuries later. Interestingly enough, in this passage it is the wicked servant who says "My master is delayed". Most evangelicals seem to follow the wicked servant's lead in believing that their master is delayed in His return. In fact they go even further than the wicked servant, stretching out the delay to thousands of years. The other parables that Dr Craig appeals to (Luke 12:35-47 and Matthew 25:1-13) to argue for parousia delay also don't work for the same reasons as above, that is the Lord returns in the lifetime of the same people who saw him leave. Furthermore, Hebrews 10:37 contradicts the idea of parousia delay by teaching that the return of Jesus would occur (relative to the first century readers of Hebrews) in just a very little while and He would not delay.

Dr Craig assumes that a number of the events in the Olivet Discourse were not fulfilled in the first century, however it can be shown by Scripture and history that certainly Matthew 24:1-34 was fulfilled in the first century, and possibly even the remaining verses of the discourse after v34 as well. This will be the subject of future posts on the Olivet Discourse where I will work through the passage in more detail. Also the context of the Olivet Discourse will be examined in greater detail, as Matthew 21-23 contain a number of predictions of the destruction of Jerusalem (such as the destruction of the murderers city in 22:7 and the desolation of the Pharisees house in 23:38) and this section forms important context for Matthew 24.

In conclusion, there is no reason to fudge on the time statements. There is no reason to think that the Biblical writers were confused, going back and forth between near future first century fulfilment and distant future fulfilment in the same few verses. The only solution to the so-called parousia delay problem is fulfilment, fulfilment in the first century time frame that Jesus and the Apostles talked about. This being the case, we are not getting raptured out of here any time soon, with the last days being past days. Therefore, this makes Dr Craig's work, and the work of the church, of witnessing to and debating the world with a Biblical worldview all the more important. If he were to reform his view on eschatology to a fulfilled view (Preterist), it would strengthen his responses to the sceptics and eliminate a potential weak link in his argumentation.

'9/11 Explosive Evidence - Experts Speak Out' is an excellent documentary on 9/11 from the Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth (the trailer is above). It features interviews with numerous architectural and engineering professionals emphasising the scientific evidence that the Twin Towers and Building 7 were brought down by controlled demolition. They carefully stick to the science and avoid speculation. They show that the official US government sanctioned version of events cannot be true and is inconsistent with the evidence. In fact the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the US Federal Technology agency, who conducted an investigation into the collapses of the World Trade Center (WTC) buildings didn't even look for evidence of controlled demolition. Even though the collapse of the WTC buildings had all the physical and chemical characteristics of controlled demolition, NIST ignored that and promoted a theory that at best could only explain the initiation of the collapses and not the totality of the collapses (even that is being generous to NIST).

Rule from the Shadows - The Psychology of Power - Part 1

Interesting documentary from StormCloudsGathering, covering such topics as propaganda, manipulation of public opinion, psychology of power and shadow government. After having watched it, it reinforced in my mind the importance of being an independent, critical thinker and a truth activist.

Given the propaganda we are inundated with on a daily basis it is more important than ever to do as the Scripture says and "Test everything. Hold on to the good." (1 Thessalonians 5:21) and to be like the men of Issachar who "understood the times" and knew what to do (1 Chronicles 12:32). To do this effectively we need knowledge and wisdom from God. Proverbs 9:10 says "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding".

Christians are to be holy non-conformists. Romans 12:2 tells us "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and prefect will".

Travel the Road

Travel the Road is an excellent missions documentary series, where the viewer follows the real life adventures of missionaries Tim Scott and Will Decker. I really appreciate the go for it attitude of these guys. As someone who is interested in missions, travel and adventure, I have found their documentaries to be fascinating viewing and they are well produced. Season 2 is probably my favourite of the Travel the Road productions. Season 2 features Tim and Will going to some very cold, remote locations in places like Tibet, China and Mongolia.

Are We Living in the Last Days? Deconstructing a Disempowering Myth.

No doubt you have heard it said "We are living in the last days". Many cult groups have last days teaching as an integral part of their evangelism. No doubt it is used to scare people into joining their group. Even many mainstream Christian groups believe we are living in the last days and will try to match up Bible prophecy with the current news in what has been labelled by critics of modern prophecy pundits as "newspaper exegesis". This phenomena has also been referred to as "last days madness". When Christians get ideas in their head about trying to change the world for the better, Christians who are caught up in last days madness will try to quash such ideas by saying that we are living in the last days and that the world will slide into apostasy and that evil men will wax worse and worse and that there is no point trying to change things. Invariably such people tend to be somewhat fatalistic and pessimistic, holding no hope for the church to have any significant impact on the future. Often I have been frustrated at the lack of understanding of Christians about the things that are going on in the world - false flag terrorism, 9/11 being an inside job and the need for a new investigation, western governments pursuing wars based on lies, the rise of the police state and the rise of a global government or New World Order. Those few Christians that do have some idea about such things are often unfortunately immersed in last days madness and so don't believe they can doing anything about the previously mentioned issues and so don't bother with activism. Thus the idea of the last days disempowers them and relegates them to the sidelines. Therefore, I thought it timely to examine this modern idea of the last days to see whether it really is Biblical or whether it is in fact a disempowering myth.

The New Testament tells us when the last days were. They were a present reality when the apostles were still alive in the first century. For example in Hebrews the author says to his readers "...in these last days God has spoken to us by his Son..." (Hebrews 1:2). The last days were ushered in at the first coming of Jesus and were a present reality when the Epistle to the Hebrews was written. Not only was it the last days in the Apostolic era, but by the time John wrote his first epistle, it was the last hour. In 1 John 2:18 "Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour". The last hour was a present reality in John's day, and the presence of many antichrists was the proof they were living in the last hour. Since the last days and the last hour were a present reality in the first century, they cannot refer specifically to the present or the future.

Christians who have a negative view of the future and the prospects of the church will often cite 2 Timothy 3 which talks about last days apostates, especially verse 13 which says "...evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived". They then make the assumption that it applies specifically to our day. However, there are a couple of aspects to this passage that render such an interpretation false. In verse 5, Paul warns Timothy to avoid such people. For that command to make any sense, the last days apostates would have to be on the scene in Timothy's day. They would be people alive in Timothy's lifetime, that he would have to deal with and avoid. Furthermore, we read in verse 9 that they will not get very far. They will not triumph over the church and their plans will come to nought. Therefore this passage cannot be used to say that these apostates will prevail over the church in history, especially since we read in Matthew 16:18 that Jesus said that he would build his church and the gates of Hades would not overcome it. That pictures the church on the offensive in human history, growing and making progress. Furthermore, the kingdom of God would be established in the days of the ancient kingdoms referred to in Nebuchadnezzar's dream in Daniel 2, thought to be Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece and Rome. This kingdom symbolised by the rock would then grow and fill the whole earth (v 35). It would be established in the days of the Roman Empire and would continue to grow. Some futurist interpreters try to insert a 2000 year gap into this sequence in Nebuchadnezzar's dream by attaching a future revived Roman Empire. However, the text itself does not suggest any such thing and to confirm that the prophesied kingdom would come in the days of the ancient Roman Empire, Jesus came at his first coming in those days and said that the kingdom was near (Matthew 4:17). Furthermore, Jesus also said that the kingdom would come in power during the lifetime of the original disciples (Matthew 16:27-28). Some interpreters try to apply this passage to the transfiguration. However that was only 6 days later and all the disciples were still alive, whereas the text says that only some would still be alive at this coming in power event. We know from history that John and also some of the Rabbis that were alive at the time lived until the destruction of Jerusalem in AD70. The AD70 destruction of Jerusalem seems to be a better fit for the timeframe of Matthew 16:27-28.

If the last days happened in the first century as the above passages suggest, then futurist prophecy pundits who proclaim we are living in the last days and that there is no point in Christians trying to change society are in fact preaching a disempowering myth that has done great damage to the church and to society as a whole. Furthermore, there is no reason to think individual believers and the church can't have a significant positive impact on the world. Even though there are many terrible things happening worldwide, as believers we can take comfort in the fact that we serve a big God who has empowered us by his Holy Spirit and promised that his kingdom will grow.
